Senior Sunday School 3 was created for the ladies who work as domestic helpers for our church members.
They come mainly from Indonesia, Myanmar and the Philippines, and are aged between 25 and 49.
Senior Sunday School 3 has four main goals
- Present the Gospel to the students
- Teach them to love God’s Word
- Teach them life’s practical lessons
- Help them find their personal purpose in life
The class has grown as students brought more friends and relatives along. Now there are a total of 20 students enrolled with an average attendance of around 12 students each week.
The Pastoral team is closely involved in caring for the students, interacting and teaching them practical wisdom from the Word of God.
The weekly Bible lessons are taken from the Gospels. The students learn about the life of Jesus and His ministry to people who are in need of God’s love and salvation. Other class activities include Bible quizzes, games, memory verses, craftwork and discussion.
Finding comfort and joy in God
Thank God for the privilege I have had of serving in SSS3 for many years. I have built a good rapport with some of the class members. They would sms me to let me know of special requests for prayer for themselves, family or even friends. They also share about personal accomplishments. For me, the greatest joy is to see them have a growing interest and delight in the Lord’s Word by memorizing Bible verses, doing lesson worksheets and applying appropriate promises of God in their lives.
Being away from home and family in a foreign land and to make ends meet is very challenging indeed.
Weekly, as we teach them the precious Word of God, we are so conscious that only God can comfort and lead them in life. Our prayers for them are that they may improve in their life skills and God’s truths will be a part of them, even after they leave us. May they find hope and comfort in the Lord Jesus Christ.
We praise God that there is a greater sense of love and care amongst them, regardless of which country they come from, be it Indonesia, Philippines or Myanmar. Another joy is to see some come to Sunday School first before they take their day off. Truly encouraging!
May the Lord bless them as they seek the Lord. May our friends find God and let the Lord be real in their lives. This is our prayer for them.
God’s grace for a tough life
My prayer is that our students would learn to lean upon and trust our Heavenly Father, that they would not give up but would continue to walk in this journey of faith. May they find God real and may God’s grace help them to overcome the difficulties as they learn what it means not to fret or give up.
As we study God’s Word together, we hope that they may find comfort and encouragement, no matter how tough life’s circumstances may be.
Reflections on the Lord of life and death
During my first 1½ years of teaching in SSS3, I have seen how four of our students experienced the deaths of their loved ones.
As their teacher, I believe that those lessons learnt about our Lord Jesus have helped them cope with their grief. I am glad that they continue to come back to class.
This really makes me more determined to help them find God real in their lives.
Testimonies by students
Some of our students have been moved to share their experience at Sunday School.
“I like attending Sunday School class as I learn who God is and what He has done for me. I have learnt to spend time with the Lord daily and to come to class faithfully.”
“I will be going home soon. What I take home from Sunday School class is to be thankful for what the Lord has done for me. I also want to learn to love others just as He loves me.”
We thank God for every soul that has been encouraged.
